How Do Students Cope with Holiday Stress? - Reflection on Student Experiences During Holiday Vacation

I may or may not be rage-writing this because it's literally the last day of my holiday vacation. Hehe:)

Where do we even start hmm?

I am currently losing my mind and that's happening a little too much these days.

It's been a long 2-week holiday vacation and looking back I don't even think I fully relaxed on one of those days. Every time I sit down and try to read a book, that little voice in the back of my mind is like: "Psst, don't relax too much because you still have to do some school assignments". That happened at least once or twice a day and I was sick of it!

Universe knew I wouldn't be a good teacher because I would definitely not give my students assignments that needed to be done the week right after any major holiday break. Yes, I know the students need to learn an amount of material each year but can they also get a simple break?!

One where they don't need to plan school assignments in their vacation. One where they don't have to live with the guilt of not doing any schoolwork. And especially one where they get to put all their focus on nothing else but themselves, family, friends, and their passion.

Now if you are a student and your passion is what you learn at school then by all means, continue on that path. But for the ones that also want to do something else next to school, they need a breather. WE need a breather.

I remember when I was in high school and an economics teacher asked us what we usually do on the weekends. Most of us answered something related to school and the way he was disappointed made me wonder why out of everyone is a teacher not satisfied with that answer. I totally forgot his answer till now that I am writing about it. He said: "Weekends are there to have a break from school and do what you like. So this weekend you better not do anything for school and just make sure you finish your assignments during the week".

I kinda wish I tried harder back then but now I see how important that is. And he is right, yet sometimes students have to do so many things for different subjects that it's impossible to do it all before weekends or even holiday vacations.

And if you think forcing yourself to do schoolwork during the vacation is hard, then imagine how quiet that project group chat would be. I patiently waited till the vacation was over to text in that group chat since we should all respect the other's breaks you know.

I'm only hoping that everything goes well because I'm so done with this semester. I'm at the point where I want to learn about something else. Like, give me my new courses please before I help increase the percentage of dropouts!!

So to answer the question of this title... We don't cope, we hope for the best and try to minimize the damage when school starts again. And as I am writing this, school did start and I'm extremely over it :)
